Steel Structure Bridge

A steel structure bridge is a bridge where the main load-bearing structure is made of steel. Based on the main stress components, steel-frame bridges can be classified into several types:

1.Steel Arch Bridge: In this type of bridge, the arch rib of the load-bearing structure mainly endures the axial force with little or no bending moment. The main arch is commonly made of steel pipes. The main arch and the cross beam can be lifted and welded separately on-site, which effectively addresses the issue of excessive lifting weight at one time. This approach not only makes the on-site construction and hoisting process convenient but also significantly shortens the construction period.

2.Cable-Stayed Bridge: The bridge deck system of a cable-stayed bridge consists of steel box girders, composite girders, or steel trusses.

3.Suspension Bridge: The girder span of a suspension bridge is supported by the main cable fixed in the pylon, and the main cable serves as the load-bearing cable. It is suspended by slings and stiffened. The two ends of the main cable are anchored to the ground. Suspension bridges are known for having the largest spans among different types of bridges.

 

Steel structure bridges possess the following distinct characteristics:

1.Exceptional Spanning Ability: Due to the high strength of steel, when compared with reinforced concrete bridges, steel structure bridges have smaller cross-sections under the same load-bearing capacity. Consequently, the degree of industrialized manufacturing is relatively high, ensuring consistent quality and efficient production.

3.Convenient for Transportation: The components of steel bridges are relatively lightweight. This is particularly advantageous in mountainous areas where transportation is challenging. They can be easily transported by automobiles, facilitating the construction process in remote or difficult-to-access locations.

4.Rapid Installation: Steel bridge components are straightforward to assemble using the cantilever construction method. There are complete sets of equipment available for this purpose, and the assembly technology is well-established and mature. This enables a quick installation process, reducing the overall construction time.

5.Easy Maintenance and Replacement: Steel bridge members are designed in a way that makes repair and replacement relatively easy. If any component gets damaged or deteriorates over time, it can be replaced without significant disruption to the overall structure of the bridge.
